About.

Nicole A. Ramirez Thomas is an archaeologist with 18 years of experience in cultural resources management and academic research.  She grew up in historic Santa Fe, New Mexico and was captivated by the history of the city at a young age. She began participating in archaeology projects with the Museum of New Mexico while in college. Her experience spans all aspects of cultural resource management including site excavation, testing, survey and inventory, laboratory analysis, scientific research, artifact conservation, and Native American consultation.

As the founder and principal of Wonderstone LLC, she has been able to offer consulting services for historic preservation projects including planning and project management, archaeological and environmental compliance services, and public outreach. Ms. Thomas strives to aid each client in meeting compliance requirements without sacrificing the objectives of cultural and heritage preservation. Development and preservation are often set at odds, however both are necessary for quality of life, economic benefit, and community resilience.

Staff Support & Technical Services

As a consultant to agencies and private companies, Wonderstone works in tandem with staff to support the objectives of their projects. This includes construction of agreement documents, Section 106 compliance required for grant compliance, and project specific support. Staff support includes processing of artifacts and data necessary for the completion of projects as well as research, writing, and technical studies.

Preservation Planning & Compliance

We provide consultation services and preservation planning advisement for compliance with local, state, and federal historic preservation requirements. We perform public outreach and compile the necessary documents, as well as work with architects, contractors, engineers, architects, and preservation specialists to assist with adaptive reuse of a historic structure in a historic districts or plan development projects within historic districts.

Historic Preservation Consulting for Developers & Private Individuals

For developers and private individuals, Wonderstone offers all levels of support for projects. Local government compliance with historic preservation policies, assistant with applications for Historic Preservation Tax Credits and other grants, as well as archaeological field studies, research, and reporting. Wonderstone understands local, state, and federal requirements for compliance required for historic preservation and can assist with all aspects of this type of work.

Records Searches, Research,
& Data Analysis

We perform records searches for reports and historic documents and data, archival and academic research for project background information or report sections, analysis of artifacts, bone, and digital data, and data entry and database creation, with spatial analysis of data points and predictive modeling.
